Some General Information

These are basic smartphones, and you can’t expect some unique features here. A smartphone’s performance is determined by the Processor (SoC), the speed of RAM, speed of storage, and software optimization. But in these devices, they use similar storage (eMMC 5.1) and RAM. So the capability of the processor will determine the significant part of the final performance.

So following are the major processors used in the budget segment right now their average AnTuTu v8 benchmark score for reference.

ProcessorAverage ScoreDevices
Helio G35108KRealme C11, Poco C3
Helio P35104KOppo A5s, Vivo Y1s
Snapdragon 43994KRedmi 8A dual, Galaxy M01
Helio G2590KRedmi 9A

Helio G35 is a rebranded version of Helio P35, and their specs are exactly the same. Also, Helio G25 is the rebranded version of Helio P22.

Do not expect excellent cameras on these budget devices. All these budget phones typically offer excellent battery life due to entry-level processors, HD screen, and large capacity batteries.

Best Smartphone under 8000 Rupees

1. Micromax in 1b

Best Smartphone under 8000 Rupees in India - Micromax in 1b

Unlike its elder brother(in Note 1), the in 1b doesn’t have any quality control issues. We have checked with many tech reviewers with the device and the only complaint they have is with the pre-applied screen protector(dis-aligned or have air bubbles). But Micromax also included another one in the box. But at this price, many other brands include screen protectors.

Micromax in 1b is the only device providing 64GB internal storage with the highest RAM in this segment. You couldn’t get a phone with Helio G35, fingerprint scanner, Type-C port, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage at 7,999 from anyone else. Also, they are shipping this phone with pure stock Android experience without any ads and bloatware. You are getting a much better deal from the 64GB variant compared to 32GB variant with only 2 GB RAM with an extra 1000 bucks.

Key Specifications

Helio G35, 6.52 inch HD+ LCD, 5000mAh Battery, 10W Charging, 13MP+2MP, 8MP selfie shooter, Type-C, BL 5.0, Fingerprint Scanner, Stock Android (no Ads, No Bloatware), dual sim, dedicated microSD slot, 188g

Storage Options: 2GB+32GB at 6,999 and 4GB+64GB at 7,999

2. Poco C3

Best Smartphone under 8000 Rupees in India - Poco C3

Poco C3 was the best all-around smartphone under 8000 rupees in India until Micromax launched in 1b. Now both the variant of Poco C3 has priced 500 rupees more and still lacks a fingerprint scanner and Type-C port. The rest of the specifications are very similar, but you get slightly better camera performance due to better computational photography.

Poco C3 key specifications:

Helio G35, 6.53 inch HD+ IPS LCD(400 nits), 5000mAh, 10W charging, 13MP(F/2.2) Primary + 2MP depth + 2 MP macro, 5MP selfie shooter, 164.9mm x 77.1mm x 9mm, 194g, Bluetooth 5.0, micro USB, dual sim, dedicated microSD, Panda Glass on the front

Storage Options: 3GB+32GB at ₹7,499 and 4GB+64GB at ₹8,499

3. Realme C11

Best Smartphone under 8000 Rupees in India - realme C11

Compared to Poco C3, realme C11 comes with 2GB of RAM and the same 32GB of storage. Another difference with Poco C3 is the absence of a macro camera, but it doesn’t make any difference because the macro camera on the Poco C3 is entirely useless. The rest of the specs are very similar, but you get aptX support for better audio quality through Bluetooth, and you get a pre-applied screen protector too. Also, the realme C11 is slightly narrower compared to other phones from redmi or Poco.

Realme C11 key specifications:

Helio G35, 6.5 inch HD+ IPS LCD, 5000mAh, 10W charging, 13MP(F/2.2) Primary + 2MP depth, 5MP selfie shooter, 164.4mm x 75.9mm x 9.1mm, 196g, Bluetooth 5.0, micro USB, dual sim, dedicated microSD, Comes with pre-applied screen protector.

Storage Options: 2GB+32GB at ₹7,499

4. Redmi 8A dual

Best Smartphone under 8000 Rupees in India - redmi 8A dual

Xiaomi recently discounted the entry-level model of Redmi 8A dual, and it starts at ₹6,999 for the 2GB+32GB variant now. It supports 18W fast charging (you have to buy a fast charger separately(449), or you can use another fast charger lying around in your home) and comes with a Type-C port like Micromax in 1b. Here we get SD439, which is in the Helio G25 territory, and the rest of the specs are similar to this price range. Redmi 8A dual is slightly old now so that future software updates will be minimal.

Redmi 8A dual key specifications

Snapdragon 439, 5000mAh battery, 18W fast charging(10W charger in the box),6.22 inch HD+ LCD, Type-C port, 13MP(F/2.2) primary + 2MP depth, 8MP selfie cam,156.5 x 75.4 x 9.4 mm, 188g, Gorilla Glass 5 on the front, Bluetooth 4.2

Storage Options: 2GB+32GB at ₹6,999 and 3GB+32GB at ₹7,999(over priced) and 3GB+64GB at ₹8,299

5. Redmi 9A

Best Smartphone under 8000 Rupees in India - Redmi 9A

Redmi 9A is Poco C3 with slightly inferior Helio G25 Processors, and we get a 2GB ram option at ₹6799 and a 3GB RAM option at ₹7499. In our time with Realme C11 and Redmi 9A(review), we have noticed Redmi 9A with Helio G25 and 3GB of RAM couldn’t handle MIUI 12 as good as Realme C11 handle colour OS 7 with its Helio G35 and 2GB of RAM. At 7,499, our primary recommendation will be realme c11, and redmi 9a will be the second. The rest of the specification is very similar to other devices in this segment.

Regarding phones below 7000 rupees, Redmi 9A will be our third recommendation after Micromax in 1b and Redmi 8A dual.

Redmi 9A Key Specifications

Helio G25, 6.53 inch HD+ IPS LCD, 5000mAh, 10W charging, 13MP(F/2.2) rear, 5MP selfie shooter, 164.9mm x 77.07mm x 9mm, 194g, Bluetooth 5.0, micro USB, dual sim, dedicated microSD

Storage Options: 2GB+32GB at ₹6,999 and 3GB+32GB at ₹7,499

6. Galaxy M01

Best Smartphone under 8000 Rupees in India - Galaxy M01

If you are looking for a smaller phone or a Samsung phone, the galaxy M01 would be a great option. We already did a full review on it. It is priced ₹7,499 for 3GB+32GB and comes with Snapdragon 439. It also comes with a TFT display compared to other IPS screens, which means slightly lower viewing angles and lesser deep blacks. The battery capacity is also smaller at 4000mAh but still offers a good battery life due to a smaller display.

Key specifications:

Snapdragon 439, 4000mAh battery, 10W charging, 5.7 inch HD+ TFT display, 13 MP (f/2.2) Primary + 2MP depth, 5MP selfie shooter, 147.5 x 70.9 x 9.8 mm, 168 g, micro USB, Bluetooth 4.2

Storage Options: 3GB+32GB at ₹7,499

Other Recommended Smartphones

There are two other smartphones we can recommend in this price segment, but they don’t offer much value as the phone mentioned in the above list

1. Oppo A5s

Best Smartphone under 8000 Rupees in India - Oppo A5s

Oppo A5s is another option that we can consider in this list. If having a fingerprint scanner is a high priority for you, then Oppo A5s is the only phone that offers it. It comes with a 4230 mAh battery and a 6.2-inch S-IPS HD+ display, and the rest of the specs are similar to this price range. It comes with Helio P35 SoC, which is slightly older, but still offers good performance than SD439 or Helio G25. But 2GB RAM will be a limitation.

Key specifications:

Helio P35, 4230mAh battery, 10W charging, 6.2 inch S-IPS HD+ LCD, Fingerprint (rear-mounted) scanner, 155.9 x 75.4 x 8.2 mm, 170 g, 13 MP (f/2.2) Primary + 2MP depth, 8MP selfie shooter, micro USB, Gorilla Glass 3 front.

Storage Options: 2GB+32GB at ₹7,990, higher models are overpriced.

2. Vivo Y1s

Best Smartphone under 8000 Rupees in India - VIVO Y1s

Vivo Y1s is a downgraded version of Oppo A5s at the same price, and that means it is the least value offering smartphone on this list. Compared to Oppo A5s, we get a slightly lesser battery, no fingerprint sensor, downgraded selfie shooter at the same price.

Key Specifications:

MediaTek Helio P35, 6.22 inch HD+ LCD, 4030 mAh battery, 13 MP Rear, 5 MP Front Camera, Dual SIM, Android 10, 155.1mm x 75mm x 8.2 mm, 161g, Aurora Blue, Olive Black, Dedicated microSD slot, microUSB, BL 5.0

Storage Options: 2GB + 32GB at ₹7,990
